ubuntu hacked

Not Ubuntu but the Ubuntu Forums Been hacked today with attackers having more than 1.8 million account details
Every user’s local username, password, and email address [were stolen] from the Ubuntu Forums database Canonical say in a statement posted on the website, adding that while the passwords (stolen) are not stored in plain text  those who use the same password on other services should change the password on the other service[s] ASAP.

Great news on that are Ubuntu One and Launchpad, are not affected by the breach.

This all happened on Saturday the 20th of july. The main page was redirected to that of an image touting a twitter account – @Spuntn1k_ – and text that read: “You dun goofed, it’s as simple as that”.

So what was the reason behind this? and how did that Happened ?are the main questions hat may arose in everyone's mind...

Some Security Experts specify that this happened due to lack of protection on Backend, also it has been said that the Forum was on an outdated version of vBulletin whose Admin Panel was unsafe.

There's a new question that why do hacker's need to hack any open source system ?why is it necessary?what do they want from an open source system through hacking which they cannot have without hack?

" O-S "AUDIO APPS

Here I am publishing some of the greatest ever open source softwares for audio/playback-

Ardour:
Ardour is a hard disk recorder and digital audio workstation application. It runs on Linux, OS X and FreeBSD. Its primary author is Paul Davis, who is also responsible for the JACK Audio Connection Kit. Ardour's intention is to provide digital audio workstation software suitable for professional use.
Released under the terms of the GNU General Public License (version two or any later version), Ardour is free software.

Audacity:
Audacity is a free open source digital audio editor and recording computer software application, available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and other operating systems Audacity was started by Dominic Mazzoni and Roger Dannenberg at Carnegie Mellon University. As of 10 October 2011, it was the 11th most popular download from SourceForge, with 76.5 million downloads. Audacity won the SourceForge 2007 and 2009 Community Choice Award for Best Project for Multimedia.

Grip:
Grip is a cd-player and cd-ripper for the Gnome desktop. It has the ripping capabilities of cdparanoia builtin, but can also use external rippers (such as cdda2wav). It also provides an automated frontend for MP3 (and other audio format) encoders, letting you take a disc and transform it easily straight into MP3s. Internet disc lookups are supported for retrieving track information from disc database servers.Grip works with DigitalDJ to provide a unified “computerized” version of your music collection.

Streamripper:
With the emergence of file sharing protocols such as Napster, Gnutella, and now Mojonation and Freenet, the average Internet user can download nearly any mp3 he wants in a matter of no time, but many times people don’t know what they want. Streamripper allows you to download an entire station of music. Many of these mp3 radio stations only play certain genres, so you can now download an entire collection of goa/trance music, an entire collection of jazz, punk rock, whatever you want.

soundKonverter:
soundKonverter is a frontend to various audio converters.

The key features are:
Audio conversion
Replay Gain calculation
CD ripping

MuSe:
MusE is a MIDI/Audio sequencer with recording and editing capabilities written by Werner Schweer. MusE aims to be a complete multitrack virtual studio for Linux.

Midi sequencing
Record/Playback/Import
Input filter
Audio sequencing
Record/Playback several mono/stereo inputs/outputs.
AudioGroups

LASH
Perform audio effects like chorus/flanger in realtime!
Jack – jack-audio-connection-kit
Use the jack for midi/audio routing.
Internal Audio Routing Interface

ALSA – based on the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture

You can use several soundcards to access external midi devices and record/playback them with MusE.

Web Browser's(Open Source)

There was a time when only few browser's were available all over for use but now,day by day more and more Web browser's are getting developed everyday...!!!
So it's too hard for User to select proper browser,so i am hereby presenting with the list of Browser's that can be helpfull to you ...!!!

1) Cross Platform Browser's:
Windows, Mac or Linux users have the majority of these browsers available to them.-
After years of no innovation in the browser space, Mozilla started from scratch — Firefox was the result. And now users have no shortage of browsers to choose from, partly due to the work of the Mozilla foundation.

Apple’s venture into this arena, Safari is fast. Originally created so Apple could remove Internet Explorer for Mac from their computers, Safari is based on open source software and is one of the fastest browsers available.

Google entered this arena and many speculated it was so they could build their operating system. With the announcements of the Google OS earlier this year, this seems to be true.

Opera is a strange bird in the browser world. It has a strong feature set and performs decently when compared to the other big names. But for some reason, it has never really caught on and sees minimal usage on any operating system.

Another project from the Mozilla Foundation, Seamonkey is the product formerly known as the Mozilla Application suite. The web browser is at the core, but it also offers an email client, IRC chat, and HTML editing.

Another browser built on Firefox’s Gecko rendering engine, Flock is aimed at heavy social web users. It has key integration features with many popular web services like Flickr and Twitter.

Thanks to the popularity of Fluid, the concept of Single Site Browsers (SSB) has gained a lot of popularity. The idea is that a lot of people were using one or more web applications all day, every day.
Rather than have those apps as just another tab amongst all the other tabs in your browser, SSB’s allow you to run your apps in their own window. This also helps when your browser crashes because you have more than 20 tabs loaded — your web app is protected in its own environment.
And Prism is Mozilla’s entry in this space.

2)Linux Based Browser's:
Whether using the Gnome or KDE desktops, Linux users have solid browser options as well.

A web browser and a file manager, Konqueror is an integral part of KDE. It uses the open source KHTML as its rendering engine — the KHTML that was forked at one point to create WebKit.

Intended to focus only on the web, Galeon was created early this decade as an alternative to the multipurpose options of Internet Explorer, Netscape and Mozilla browsers.
Galeon is no longer in active development.

This option was built to optimize Intel and AMD processors. It is Linux only and is based on Firefox. Its purpose is to address the speed complaints aimed at Firefox.

Also built on Firefox, Swiftweasel is also optimized for certain architectures. The difference from Swiftfox is that Swiftweasel is completely open source.

(Above i have mentioned with the top Browser's available for Linux user's specially as well as Browser's for All platform's in common.)

Best Open Source O.S Avialable in market.

Before Starting any work we must be sure that we have proper OS in our System...

*As we are dealing with open source only,I am here to post some of the best and the most widely used open source Operating system all over the world...

This is to inform you all that all the os are based on Linux-Distribution:

1. RedHat Linux (RHEL)
Redhat is considered as the most favorite Linux server operating system. It offers stability and powerful support from the developer. The developers claims that Redhat is the standard of the powerful data center software. It offers Efficiency, scalability and reliability to their users.

2. Ubuntu
Ubuntu actually is another server operating system developer. It offers certification on some hardware and application that may use on the server. This certification means that Developer has has tested maximally both hardware and application. This method helps users to select the best and suitable hardware depending on their own need.

Canonical support as well the commercial support for business to manage their cloud data system. There are three kind of support, including essential, standard and advanced. As the free and open source, Ubuntu server is free to be used without any obligation to get commercial support.

3. Centos
Centos actually is developed from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) therefore you can get commercial support from RHEL if needed. As well as Fedora, Centos has its own repository and community supports which makes you easier to use this Distro on the server. It is developed from freely available source code of RHEL.

4. Debian
Debian is actually source of Ubuntu. It provides the server version as well for the cloud and data center need. Basically, it doesn't have the commercial support. Fortunately, you can still get the support by contacting Debian Developers or getting the solution from the large Debian community member.

(Now wisely choose whichever OS best suits according to your needs and enjoy the start of the open source world)

Welcome to my World Of Open Source...

Hello Everyone...
Welcome to the world of your very own open source items.

You all are aware of the stuffs that are available on the internet at the cost of something but what-if the same features that they give by letting us to pay for it is available for free totally, yes you heard it true ...!!!

All the stuff's in the internet world that are available only after making us pay for that are also available for free of cost...

Don't take me wrong i am not talking about pirated software's that are often cracked by 'crackers' to make the paid software's free of cost, this type of software's are harmful to our computer system as it has maximum possibilities of having bug's in them.

I am basically talking about the software's that are available as an alternate to all the software's that are paid for use in the Internet world...

Most of the Computer user's must not even be knowing even the meaning of Open Source
That's not the big deal !!!

We all have been taught in our primary's computer classes using closed source, that's the only reason why we are not aware of open source existence in the market...!!!

Now Let Us 1st Understand the meaning of Open Source:
What is an Open Source????
"Generally, open source refers to a program in which the source code is available to the general public for use and/or modification from its original design. Open source code is typically created as a collaborative effort in which programmers improve upon the code and share the changes within the community. Open source sprouted in the technological community as a response to proprietary software owned by corporations."           [Wikipedia]

OK now if u have understood the meaning of open source let me know u what my blog would consists of :
My blog would include all the information about the technology world of open source along with some of the best open source software's that could be help full to all of you...

                           Thank you
